We provide the green wheelie bins for you to dispose of recyclable household waste. Please see the list of items below that you can put in the green bin for recycling.

Please make sure items for recycling are clean and put them loose in your green wheelie bin.

You can put any recyclable items too large for the bin next to the bin. Please put in either clear tied bags or open cardboard boxes.

Items you can put in your green bin

  • Plastics - tubs, trays, pots, film, carrier bags, packaging and bottles - you can leave tops, lids and caps on but please remove any absorbent layers
  • Metal - food tins, drink cans, clean foil, aluminium trays, empty aerosols, large metal sweet tins, biscuit tins - you can leave tops, lids and caps on
  • Paper - newspapers, magazines, brochures, junk mail, envelopes, telephone directories and catalogues
  • Cardboard - packaging card, egg boxes, juice and squash cartons
  • Glass - bottles and jars - you can leave tops, lids and caps on (it must not be broken - see the black bin / general waste page for guidance on disposing of broken glass)

Please note - when recycling shredded paper, please make sure it is contained in an envelope for example. This helps make sure it doesn't blow over the street when we empty the bin into the lorry.

You can also use a home compost bin as another method for disposing of shredded paper if you have one.
