Items you can put in each bin

To help you sort your household waste, we have put together a list of the items you can put in each bin.

Select a bin:

If you live in a flat, you may have shared communal bins for recycling, food and general waste.

On collection day, please make sure you put your bin out by 6.45am. Visit our bin collection day page.

General information for all bins

Please make sure your bin doesn't block the pavement and that the lid closes. We will not collect your bin if its weight exceeds 50kg or if it contains unacceptable items. You can take any waste that doesn't fit in your bin to the Household Recycling Centre.

Medical and hygiene waste

We have put together information on how you can safely dispose of clinical, medical and hygiene waste, including syringes. Visit our medical and hygiene waste page.

Battery and vape disposal service

You can put some types of used household batteries and disposable vapes out for collection on the same day as your green or black bin. Please view our battery and vape disposal page for more information.

Electrical waste

Any electrical item with a plug, cable or battery is recyclable. However, you must never place electrical items in the household waste bins to prevent fires occurring. Visit our page on how to recycle and dispose of electrical items.
