Single person council tax discount
A full council tax bill is based on at least two adults living in a property.
If you are the only adult in your household, you may qualify for a single person council tax discount of 25%.
You will not receive the discount automatically. You must apply to us.
Eligibility
You are usually eligible for the single person council tax discount if:
- You are the only person over 18 years old living in your property
AND - The property is your sole or main residence
You cannot claim this discount for empty properties or second homes.
Different situations
We recognise that some households may have different living arrangements.
If you have a partner or other person who normally lives with you, and they are living away or temporarily absent, you will not be eligible for this discount.
If you are unsure about your specific circumstances, please contact us before applying.
