Discretionary hardship discount (council tax)

How the discount works

A person who is liable to pay council tax on a property has the right to apply to us for a reduction in the amount of council tax due to be paid. This is stated in Section 13a of the Local Government Finance Act 1992.

We have the power to award a discount for a period of time we think reasonable. We can choose to reduce the amount of council tax payable.
