In October 2023, we established a Recycling Education Team whose focus is to:
- Promote our waste and recycling services to residents
- Increase recycling rates in our city (currently at 42%)
- Raise awareness of waste and recycling issues
- Educate and engage with children and young people on waste and recycling
- Collaborate with other councils and agencies (e.g. reduce fire hazards in waste and tackle fly-tipping etc)
We have an ongoing programme of outreach work to inform and educate residents on waste and recycling:
- Projects and campaigns on correct waste disposal, including safe battery disposal, food waste, reusable products and fly-tipping
- Free workshops with schools, colleges, businesses and community groups
- Attendance at community events
- Door-to-door engagement
Our mascots Recycling Rita and Hungry Harry regularly accompany the Recycling Education Team to school visits and community events.
Book a free recycling workshop
Our Recycling Education Team offers workshops to community groups, businesses, schools and other educational settings in Peterborough.
Through these free workshops, we aim to raise awareness of waste related issues and increase the amount of waste recycled in the city.
In 2023/24, we visited 90 schools and nurseries.
