Reusable nappy scheme

We have teamed up with various selected suppliers to offer a 10-20% discount on reusable nappies and other related items. 

Benefits of using reusable nappies

With around three billion disposable nappies used in the UK each year, nappies make up a significant proportion of household waste.

Modern reusable nappies are easy to use and wash. They can save you hundreds of pounds compared to disposable nappies, as well as saving space in your bin. Even switching to reusable nappies for one change a day will save hundreds of nappies by the time your child is potty trained!

Although we do understand that reusable nappies may not suit all babies or needs.

Eligibility

This scheme is open to Peterborough residents only.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Live at a permanent address within the boundaries of Peterborough
  • Care for a child of nappy-wearing age or be expecting a child

We will use discretion if an applicant has another reason for applying, such as:

  • An older child who has a medical or other requirement for nappies

Other districts in Cambridgeshire may also participate in the scheme. Please check your own district council’s website for information.

You can also check the Nappy Alliance website to see if your local council has a scheme available.

Please note residents must undertake their own research to decide their supplier of choice. We hold no responsibility if complaints or concerns are raised with the supplier directly.

How to get the discount

You receive the discount in the form of a code. You then use this code on the supplier's website when making a purchase:

  • Only the applicant must use the discount code
  • The discount code is for personal use of the applicant only
  • Only one code per applicant
  • This is a one-off discount

Please use our online form to apply for the discount code.

You need to supply an email address on your application to receive the discount code.

You'll also need to confirm how you heard about the scheme and specify the supplier of choice. You must undertake your own research to decide which supplier you choose.

After you apply

Once you have submitted the online form, we will check your eligibility. We may need to contact you to check details as part of your application.

You will receive confirmation of your discount code within three to five working days.

If you haven’t heard from us within five working days, please email recycling@peterborough.gov.uk.

We have provided the terms and conditions of the scheme below.

  • Once you've completed your application we will check your eligibility. Officers may need to contact you to check details as part of your application.
  • Residents must undertake their own research to decide their supplier of choice. Peterborough City Council holds no responsibility if complaints or concerns are raised with the supplier directly.
  • Access to the discount codes will be possible only on confirmation of an address within Peterborough.
  • Applicants will receive an email within five working days confirming the outcome of their application.
  • Your email address will not be shared with anyone for any other purpose. We will, however, contact you periodically to ask some details about how you have used the codes and how your experience of using real nappies has developed. We may also contact you from time to time with further information to support you in using real nappies.
  • Further terms and conditions may be required by the supplier and can be found through the individual websites and the purchasing process. For example, the discount code is single use and cannot be used in line with other discounts and promotions.
  • Suppliers partnering with us in this scheme will have access to your name and address for the purposes of confirming eligibility to authorise the discount code at checkout. Our partners will not use your details for any other purposes, unless you give them express permission via their website when purchasing items from them.
  • Once you have finished with the nappies, or if you don’t get on with them, please consider donating them to your local nappy library, or get in touch and we can help support you in their reuse.
  • If you would like further support and advice, please contact us on recycling@peterborough.gov.uk.

Our terms and conditions are subject to change as necessary in order to ensure the continuation of the scheme. Details will be updated on the website as and when any changes occur.

Peterborough Nappy Library is a scheme set up by volunteers to promote cloth nappies and their many benefits to local families.
