Pension scheme

We’ll make contributions that are higher than your own contributions and includes generous life cover. We have an additional voluntary contributions (AVC) scheme for employees to make additional contributions to their pension pot. 

Enhanced pay

We offer enhanced pay during maternity, adoption and paternity leave, as well as paid bereavement leave. We also offer paid time off for hospital appointments, cancer screening appointments and fertility treatment.

Parking permits

Employees can make use of parking permits at a significantly reduced cost for a range of car parks across Peterborough. 

Work-life balance

You can work flexibly, splitting your time between the office and home. Our flexi scheme allows you to adjust your hours or take time off when you need it. New starters can access a £50 one-off homeworking allowance. All employees can take two days of paid volunteer leave each year to support a charity that aligns with their personal values.

Employees receive a £50 voucher if recognised for exceptional performance or going above and beyond through our Employee Recognition Scheme. We also hold an annual staff awards ceremony with peer-to-peer nominations. We offer long service awards to recognise employee’s commitment to Peterborough City Council. 

Employee wellbeing

Our Employee Assistance Programme offers support, including counselling, to employees and their families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We also have Mental health First Aiders, regular all staff wellbeing hours, an EDI staff network, a private health insurance offer and subsidised gym memberships available.

Generous annual leave

25 to 35 days each year dependant on length of service and grade, in addition to bank holidays and other paid special leave provisions. We offer flexible bank holidays too, enabling you to choose when to take them. You can also purchase up to ten days extra annual leave each year.
